BHOPAL: A 15-year-old girl, who is battling for life with 95% burns at the district hospital in Sagar, alleged that four boys, including two teens, allegedly gang-raped her before setting her afire. The four boys have been arrested and the police are also looking into the possibility of an attempted "honour killing" in the case.
Police said that the Khurai police station inSagar district received an information on Monday morning that a teenaged girl from Khajra Harchand village has been admitted to the Sagar district hospital with severe burns.
Speaking to TOI, Khurai police station in-charge and investigating officer of the case, TS Usrate, said, "In her statement, the girl said that she was raped Sunday evening when she had gone to attend nature's call along with two siblings.'' She alleged that two accused identified as Mukesh Kurmi (18), Deepak Vishwakarma (18), and two minor boys raped her in a field near her house.
"The victim said that after the rape, she reached home with her siblings and narrated the entire incident to her parents. Her uncle Pappu went out in search of the boys but could not find them. At around 7 am on Monday, the four boys barged into the house of the victim when she was alone. They doused her with kerosene and set the hapless girl on fire,'' the inspector said. The police reached the village and the girl's younger sisters, who had accompanied her on Sunday evening, gave the same statement.
Usrate said, "We picked up the boys for questioning and brought them to the police station. When we asked them, they unfolded another story.''
The boys told the police that the girls had a secret affair with Mukesh and had recently developed physical relations with him. On Sunday, the girl came with her sisters and Mukesh with the three accused. The sisters were waiting in one corner of the field while the victim walked over to the other side to meet Mukesh. The girl's uncle Pappu allegedly saw the two in a compromising position.
"She soon returned her home with sisters. Mukesh and the boys claim that they did not see her after that evening," the officer added.
"Investigations have just started and we are looking at the incident on the angle of honour killing too. A case will be registered soon,'' Usrate said.
