Of late, I have been witnessing a very disturbing increase in the crime against females, be a girl child, a teenager, or an adult woman. It has almost become the order of the day. Newspapers are replete with such news. No doubt, India has been placed at parity with Afghanistan as the worst countries for a female to born in. Sometimes, I guess, had it been there in the past too but very less reported?.. or the mind set of the Indian male is becoming less human, devoid of any compassion and respect for the other gender, and is also becoming fearless of the Indian Law!
So, I fancied an idea to let the world know the dark side of "Being a Female in India."
Let there be the consciences shaken, people of all walks do some soul searching..take a pause and raise their voice, wherever they are, against the atrocities being meted out to girls and women, with a result that cruelity against the female gender starts receding, and we give to our generations to come a society where a woman is respected in its true essence-as as wife, as a sister, as a mother, as a grand mother et al..is the sole objective of this blog.
Amen.

Shantiniketan schoolgirl made to drink urine for bedwetting IANS | Jul 8, 2012, 07.10PM IST

KOLKATA: A four member fact-finding committee has been constituted to look into the allegation that a class five student of Visva-Bharati's Patha Bhavan school was forced to drink her urine as a punishment for bedwetting, a university official said Sunday.

"We have received a complaint that a class 5 residential student of the Patha Bhavan was allegedly made to drink her urine as a punishment. A four member fact finding committee headed by former dean of students welfare, Aruna Mukherjee has been set up to look into the matter and submit its report to the vice chancellor of the university," a university spokesman told IANS.

The incident happened Saturday evening when the warden of Karabi hostel, Uma Poddar, while on an inspection found Punita guilty of bedwetting. She allegedly then made the girl drink her urine as a punishment.

After the girl told her mother about the ordeal, her parents and several other people stormed the hostel premises and allegedly manhandled Poddar.

The girl's mother has also lodged a complaint against Poddar at the Bolpur police station in Birbhum district, some 160 km from state capital Kolkata.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken cognisance of the matter and has sought a report from the university.
